This month, our students finally got a solution to the mounting pile of old and torn textbooks in their school backyards and store rooms. Mr .Himanshu Joshi and Vinod Gosavi of Bhavans College, Mumbai, paper mache experts came to the rescue to show the students a few tricks with their old textbooks.
On our second anniversary at the E-Base Pench, we would like to introduce our E-Base to the students at the Third Pole E-Base in Leh.
The Third Pole E-Base which was set up in August, 2013 is the third E-Base in the world. Once again, an E- Base set up in India! With an E-Base in Antarctica, two in India and many more in the pipeline around the world, a network of global environmental leaders connected through the E-Bases is no longer a distant dream.
Our students wished to virtually bring the students of Leh into their special green educational space and this is a shout out to all at the Third Pole E-Base on this very special day for all of us in Pench.
Our beautiful Bhindi and Barbati plants served their purpose. Our Midday Meal Kitchen in the shcool absorbed all the produce of our organic patch (off course, the produce that remains after the students eat the raw bhindi! Yes, we know what you’re think, raw Bhindi? But, the students love it! We think it has something to do with the sweetness in vegetables when grown organically.)
With topics ranging from distribution of animals in the oceans, the physical and chemical properties of water, ice and steam, water as a conductor, water as a source of energy, and the power of water to the history of water use over the ages, this interactive and experimental session was a fun space for the students to explore everything to do with Water.
Have you ever wondered how our planet provides us with pristine drinking water?
With an organic garden up and running, we decided it was time to give the students an introduction to nutrition. With our fast paced lives and change in lifestyles, wholesome foods are slowly being nudged out of the picture.
As a part of our program for the second year, we have taken it upon ourselves to go organic! In our principal attempt with a small Kitchen Garden for Turia Middle School, experts at the organic affair, Ms. Pulkita Parsai and Mr. Ankit Pogula, guide us through the entire process.
From a small overgrown unkempt spot in the school to a flourishing organic kitchen garden- Join us on our fun- filled, amusing and sincere endeavor to encourage our students to embrace organic foods and improve their daily nutrition.
To kick off our second year at the E-Base, we commenced with our Food and Nutrition Module.
As an introduction to the module we went to the basics- our digestion process.
We do not inherit our planet from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children. The way we live our lives will profoundly impact the lives of our children and decisions made today will influence the future of life on Earth. Therefore, it is our mission to build on this by informing, engaging and inspiring the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, be sustainable, and know that the time for action is NOW.
The E-Base has many fans! But, they are not only our students! Educators, school teachers and students from all over India have had wonderful experiences at the E-Base.
