The Organic Diaries- Step 5: The Final Touches

August 31, 2013 • Posted in: News, The Organic Diaries, Workshops

The day of heavy rains and our sowing had passed. We were all now patiently waiting for the kali mitti and the seeds to do their job. Given the weather, we were very skeptical about the flowering of the seeds, but we had our fingers crossed (yes, literally, and we made our students cross them too).

Till then, we decided to give our garden the final touches. Every class had their own boards on which they were to write their class details and the vegetables seeds they had sown to put in the organic patch.

We assumed this would be a ten minute job, but the students took this board writing quite seriously. Every class voted on who they thought was the neatest writer of them all.

Next, the poor nominee was to write on this board while all his 40 to 50 classmate yelled out suggestions and instructions.

Eventually, after about an hour dedicated to this activity, we were ready to put up the boards.

(The E-Base program is all about putting into practice learnings at the E-base. Our modules are well complemented by hands- on and practical implementations through our projects in schools we associate with. The three main projects for this year- organic gardening, composting and energy generation through a bicycle aim to drive home the necessity of a commitment towards sustainability and environmental conservation.)
